Children’s activity center opens at Rangeley Library

RANGELEY – While the chilly winter winds rattle your windows and bones, the Rangeley Public Library encourages all patrons with young children to come into the library and take advantage of our new independent activity center. Youngsters can make a polar bear puppet, a slithering snake bracelet and several other activities after reading a title from a suggested reading list.

Geared toward younger children, all the instructions and supplies are provided by the Library. When your child has completed five activities, they will be able to grab a small prize from our overflowing treasure chest. The activities are designed to encourage creativity and motivate young patrons to pick up a book and go on a great adventure.

Childrens’ Librarian Kelly Jones spent lots of time picking the activities and providing the reading lists. The materials are all organized according to type and are easily accessible. “It is great that the kids can have access to so many materials and books. Kids can only develop creativity if they have the opportunity to do so,” she said.

In addition to these independent activities, the Rangeley Public Library also runs three childrens programs a week. On Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m., the library runs an infant story hour for children who are not in pre-school. Thursday afternoon, the library runs an after-school program which is regularly attended by over 25 kids. Finally, the library hosts a story hour on Friday mornings for the local pre-schools.

For more information about any of the Library programs, please call the Library at 864-5529 or e-mail info@rangeleylibrary.com. The Library is open on Tuesday 10 – 7, Wednesday thru Friday 10 – 4:30, and Saturday 10 – 2.
