CMCC students prepare for law enforcement careers

Most of those who sat for the test are students in the criminal justice program at CMCC, including Rebecca Dumais of Wales and Jenna Brown of Auburn, who are pictured here during the test administration.

AUBURN – Thirty-two aspiring law enforcement officers took the ALERT test recently at Central Maine Community College (CMCC). The ALERT test is given to determine if an applicant meets the minimum requirements to attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Law Enforcement, Basic Corrections, or Law Enforcement Pre-Service Academy.

The College will host a Law Enforcement Pre-Service Academy this spring starting March 25. Students will have classes every Thursday, Friday and Saturday and will conclude with a full week of classes at the end of the semester. Graduation is planned for May 7. This schedule will ensure that students have ample time to apply for summer reserve officer positions.

The ALERT Test is likely to be administered again at CMCC before the start of the Pre-Service Academy. Anyone interested in taking the ALERT Test or attending the Law Enforcement Pre-Service Academy is asked to contact Bill King at 755-5208 or email wking@cmcc.edu. Information is also available on the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Web site at www.maine.gov/dps/mcja/.
