FARMINGTON – Interested in where to buy more fresh local produce?

Several area farms offer Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares. A CSA is a membership, or share that the customer buys from a farm in advance. The CSA share or membership entitles the customer to a weekly or monthly basket of produce, flowers, fruits, eggs, milk, meats, or any sort of different farm products depending on the specific farm.

A CSA, is a way for the public to support local farmers and to enjoy the benefits of the freshest produce available. On Sunday, February 28, from 1 to 4 p.m., the public is invited to learn more about CSAs through local farms, and to get a preview of local products by attending a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Fair at the Fairbanks Neighborhood School, 508 Fairbanks Rd in Farmington. Become acquainted with local seasonal foods, buy a share in a farm’s weekly harvest, and discover how you can grow a relationship with a Maine farm.

The Farmington CSA Fair is coordinated by the Western Mountains Alliance, The Fairbanks Neighborhood School Association and volunteers with sponsorship from Bangor Savings Bank and Franklin Savings Bank and Hannaford. The Farmington CSA fair is just one of several statewide events co-sponsored by the Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association (MOFGA) and the Maine Council of Churches

Admission to the event is free for farms and the public. For location information or for farms interested in participating in the Farmington event, contact the Western Mountains Alliance at 207-778-3885, info@westernmountainsalliance.org. For more information on CSA Fairs statewide, contact MOFGA’s Organic Marketing Coordinator Melissa White Pillsbury, 207-568-4142, melissa@mofga.org.
