Recently, the Somerset Humane Society and the Franklin County Animal Shelter were presented with a generous gift from the estate of Geraldine M. Davidson. Michael Gilmore, trustee, presented both shelters with the first of two payments from the estate. Ms. Davidson gave the gift for the general support of the shelter.

An animal lover throughout her life, Davidson’s many dogs and cats over the years were part of her family. She visited both shelters frequently and was actively supportive of their missions.

Geraldine Davidson, formerly Geraldine (Kimball) Mercurio, was originally from Kingfield. She was employed as a secretary for H.G. Winter and Sons for many years. She was married to Perry Mercurio until his death in 1994.

In 1998, at the age of 80, she married Leland Davidson of Rangeley. Leland owned a service station in Rangeley. They made their home in Chesterville until Leland passed away in 2007. Ms. Davidson passed away on April 22, 2009 at the age of 91.
