Emblem Club scholars announced

FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club 460 hosted a lasagna dinner for this year’s scholarship recipients. Scholarships were presented to Laura Riden, Clovis Community College NM for nursing; Sean Simpson, Thomas College for sports management; Bryndy Richards, Husson University for nursing; Brittany Conley, University of Maine Augusta for liberal arts and Noel Lake, University of Southern Maine for social services.

After a wonderful meal and the scholarship presentations the Farmington Emblem Club began the regular January meeting with the stationing of the Flags of the United States of America. The National Anthem was sung and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The chaplain opened in prayer.

Americanism Chairman, Nancy Chase, read a poem called “Freedom.” The Farmington Emblem Club will perform a Flag Folding ceremony at the Skowhegan Elks Lodge for Flag Day in June.

Community Service Chairman, Candy Clark reported that members helped at the animal shelter, drove someone to and from the hospital, went to the Chamber of Commerce meeting. The Club made donations the the area food pantries, and books to daycare. Farmington Emblem Club will host a Valentine’s Dance at the Farmington Elks Lodge on Feb. 13. The band will be the Legends. Tickets are available from Emblem members or by calling Shannon Smith at 778-4726.

Donations were made to Jay Special Olympics and to Kaitlyn Burdick to go to Hawaii for a cheerleading conference.

This month’s drawing winners were Judy Lane for the Mystery Gift, Christine Greenleaf won the 50/50, and Linda Chabot the Pot of Gold was absent.

The next meeting of Farmington Emblem Club will be Feb. 4, 2010.
