FARMINGTON – After 35 years, Scott Planting, pastor of the Fairbanks, New Portland and North New Portland churches, is leaving this area to begin a new position as director of Maine Sea Coast Mission in Bar Harbor.

An open house for Rev. Scott Planting will be held on Saturday Oct, 2, 2-5 p.m. at the Fairbanks School Meeting House, 508 Fairbanks Rd., Farmington.

Planting has ministered to this area since he arrived at the age of 25 along with his wife Marsha and their daughters Mercer and Hadley. Planting also served as director of Mission at the Eastward and the driving force behind the Camp at the Eastward in Starks, the North Parish Housing Ministry, which repairs and refurbishes housing by involving volunteer church work groups from all over the country, and the partnership with the Macfarlan parish in South Africa.

In addition, he has served on the board at 82 High Street and for Franklin Memorial Hospital’s board of trustees.

A special scholarship fund in honor of Scott’s ministry is being created for Camp at the Eastward in Starks, a summer camp for boys and girls. To make a donation, please send checks to Mission at the Eastward, P.O. Box 206, Farmington, ME 04938 with a note in the memo line saying “Scott Planting scholarship fund.”
