Farmington Emblem Club meets

FARMINGTON – Prior to the March meeting of Farmington Emblem Club #460 the past presidents were honored with a meal and gifts. There were 14 past presidents in attendance. The meal was meatball subs, coleslaw, salad, pickles and cheese with a cake for dessert. Debbie Holt made the cake and the meal was served by Candace Clark, Renee Targett and Linda Abbott. A gift bag of virgin olive oil, spices and bread along with a recipe for making a dipping sauce for the bread was given to each past president.

President Rebecca Powell gave thank you gifts for her officers and committee chairman for the last two years Gifts for the past presidents was a box of note cards from deceased member Sandy Knight. Sandy would have been the Club president for the past two years if she had not succumbed to cancer. Another gift to the officers and committee chairmen was a long stemmed chocolate rose from Becky.

Just before the meeting began Lieutenant Colonel Michael Backus presented memorial coins for Maine Women Veterans to Consuelo Johnson for her continued service in the Army and to Quinnale Kinsey whose daughter will be will be returning from Afghanistan in about a week.

the meeting began with the stationing of the Flags of the United States of America at the altar. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, the National Anthem sung and the opening prayer was given by chaplain Claudette Merchant.

Roll call showed 26 present and 53 absent.

Nancy Chase, Americanism chairman, announced that the Farmington Emblem Club will have a booth at the Home & Leisure Show this year. Nancy read a very moving article about the bravest family in America, Corey and Jenny.

community Service chairman Candace Clark reported that members worked a blood drive, Franklin memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Blueberry Festival, the animal shelter, on the Farmington Fair and did shopping for a needy family.

Diana Olive, Literacy chairman report reading at day care, preparing books for a book sale and two members made 170 bookmarks.

Farmington Emblem Club will host a blood drive on April 26th.

Raffle winner for the month of March were mystery gifts Rebecca Powell, 50/50 Diana Oliver and Pot-O-Gold Linda Welch absent.

The Farmington Emblem Club voted on new officers for 2011 – 2012. Installation for the new officers will be April 7, the first Thursday of the month instead of having the regular meeting.

Preparations for the Maine State Association convention are under way and will be held the first weekend of June in Farmington this year.

The next regular meeting will be May 5, 2011.
