Foothills Land Conservancy nature walk Sept. 19

WILTON – Foothills Land Conservancy is offering a nature walk for the public on its conservation land in Wilton, on Saturday, Sept. 19. The two-hour guided walk, which starts at 9 a.m., will begin at the parking lot of the Wilson Lake Headwaters conservation land, near the Rt. 156 end of Pond Road in Wilton. Participants should be prepared for an easy walk that may include wet areas. No rain date is scheduled. Contact Peter Schmitt at 645-4218 for more information.

The walk will be guided by Warren Balgooyen, a trained naturalist who previously spent 20 years working for the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, at first in their research laboratory and later as founder and director of the Environmental Education Center.

Since moving to Maine Balgooyen has served on the Boards of Land for Maine’s Future and Maine Audubon. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance, a land trust serving the Belgrade Lakes area.

Foothills Land Conservancy, a non-profit land trust, is involved in protection of undeveloped land, wildlife habitat and water resources in the greater Franklin County area. The nature walk is one of several activities planned in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the purchase of the Headwaters property which consists of 238 acres of forest, farmland and wetlands at the head of Wilson Lake.
