CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Nearly 300 golfers contributed more than 1,000 canned food items at the eighth annual Tin Mountain Round Up at the Sugarloaf Golf Club, July 25-27.
The Tin Mountain Round Up offers guests the chance to play New England’s premiere golf course for just $50 when they donate three or more canned food items.
Since its inception eight years ago, Sugarloaf golfers have contributed nearly 14,000 canned food items to benefit the United Methodist Economic Ministry in Salem.
“This has become a favorite summer tradition at Sugarloaf,” said Sugarloaf’s Director of Golf Scott Hoisington. “Many of our golfers return year after year for this special weekend.”
The summer Tin Mountain Round Up is an extension of a winter tradition that began more than 20 years ago. One weekend each winter Sugarloaf offers skiers discounted lift tickets in exchange for canned food donations. Between the two drives, Sugarloafers contribute nearly 5,000 cans of food each year.
