FARMINGTON – The Healthy Community Coalition (HCC) will host a free, two hour GPS training on Wednesday, May 5, as part of the Mapping Our Footsteps grant initiative from the Environmental Funders Network.

The training will take place from 4- 6 p.m. Participants will meet in the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital and will work their way to the walking trails on the hospital campus. Any interested groups, classes, families, or individuals are welcome to attend.

Participants will receive free GPS training from members of the Department of Conservation Maine Forest Service and equipment will be provided. There will also be information on how to get started with geocashing, a high-tech treasure hunt for those equipped with GPS devices.

“This is an excellent project for community groups and families. It gets you outside, walking, hiking, enjoying all the beauty of Western Maine. And it’s free,” said Lorri Brown, program coordinator. No registration is required.
