The honor of Elk of the Year was awarded to Vicky LaBree, at left with Claudette Merchant, for her hard work and dedication to the Lodge and her work raising funds for youth activities and veterans. The honor was doubly impressive because Vicky was last year’s recipient as well, something that does not happen very often. Other certificates of achievement and recognition were presented as well as an “Officer of the Year” presentation to Lynda Haskell.

WEST FARMINGTON – The Farmington Elks Lodge in West Farmington was the location for the Lodge’s 41st Installation of Officers Friday night, March 26th.

Claudette Merchant finished her year as the first female Exalted Ruler of the Lodge by thanking all those who made the year such a successful one, especially thanking her husband Tim Merchant, a Past Exalted Ruler himself.

Les Brown of Wilton was installed as Exalted Ruler for the 2010-2011 Lodge year by an installing suite of Past Exalted Rulers.

Other officers for the upcoming year to be sworn in include Ed Podgurski, Lloyd Leeman, Robert Oliver, Gerry Gilman, Roberta Ranger, Tim Merchant, Lynda Haskell, Duane Clark and David Fronk. Two new Trustees, Darrel Rogers and Claudette Merchant took their oath as well.

Rebecca Powell, Farmington Emblem Club president presented outgoing Exalted Ruler Claudette with a Past Exalted Ruler’s jacket. Other gifts were presented as well.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a fraternal organization striving to help others in their communities, especially the youth and the veterans.
