Plus antique cars exhibition, gourmet lunch fundraiser for 8th grade, and Fair Trade craft fair

KINGFIELD – Two local groups are hosting a joint fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Camden National Bank lawn in Kingfield. The Kingfield POPS Festival of Arts Committee will host a visit by Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ Mobile Appraisal Coach for an antiques appraisal fair fundraiser, as well as a Karma Fair Trade craft fair and an exhibit of antique cars. The KES 8th grade is hosting a gourmet lunch to raise funds for the spring class trip.

The antique appraisal will provide instant, onsite appraisals by Thomaston Place’s Kaja Veilleux and John Bottero for antique or collectible items brought to the Appraisal Coach. There will be a suggested donation of $5.00 per item or 5 items for $20, and 100% of the proceeds will support the Kingfield POPS Festival of the Arts.

Participants are encouraged to bring any items that they want to have appraised. If items are too large to be transported to the coach, detailed photographs can be used to determine their approximate value. There are no appointments, and each person will have a chance to meet with an appraiser on a first come, first served basis.

Guests can also enjoy a gourmet lunch hosted by Theresa Shanahan and the KES 8th grade. The menu features a choice of three sandwiches (chicken salad made with caramelized onions and walnuts on a ciambatta roll with spinach & tomato, 5-spice pork with Asian slaw on a wrap, or an Italian foccacia bread sandwich with salami, ham & provolone) and a choice of sides (rice salad with cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, and oregano; Asian pasta salad with peanut sauce, chickpea salad with cucumbers and tomatoes, and savory roasted potato salad.) If the weather is cool, there will be a hot soup. Desert is apple crisp. Lunches will be about $5.00. Funds raised will help the class pay for their class trip.

The antique cars exhibit, taking place at the same location and at the same time, will feature a 1957 T-bird, a Rolls Royce, a 1961 Nash, a 1957 Ford and more.

A Karma Market Fair Trade booth will sell fair trade jewelry, soapstone, collectibles, toys, ornaments, pottery, purses, soaps, candle, and much more, all unique and reasonably priced (5$-50$). A portion of the proceeds benefits the POPS, while at the same time helping world artisans to earn a fair and stable income for their families.

Organizers from KES and from the POPS Committee recommend that participants bring a chair and dress for the weather.

Pat Johnson, of the Kingfield POPS Festival of the Arts Committee, said: “I am excited that the Thomaston Place Auction Galleries Appraisal Coach is returning to Kingfield again this year. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to find out what their family heirlooms and household treasures are worth, while supporting the Kingfield POPS at the same time. I’m also pleased that visitors to the appraisal coach can browse the antique car exhibit, shop at the Karma Fair Trade Fair and enjoy a lunch that will benefit the 8th grade. All together, it’s a great excuse to come out for a few hours, have a great time and support the community as well.”
