Kingfield POPS offers locals a bargain

KINGFIELD, Maine – The Kingfield POPS is offering an early-bird locals’ discount on tickets for the June 26, 2010 concert.

For two weeks only, from March 26 to April 9, ticket prices will be discounted 25 percent, which means that $20 tickets will be sold for $15. Four or more tickets together can be purchased at a 40 percent discount – in other words, $48 for an $80 value. These specially discounted tickets will be available only at Tranten’s Family Market in Kingfield and Farmington, and at branches of the Camden National Bank in Kingfield, Farmington, Rangeley, Stratton and Phillips.

“Times are tough,” said POPS president Donald Tranten, “and we wanted to find a way to help make the event affordable for families. Just as we always have done, we’re offering free tickets to kids 17 and under, but we wanted to do something extra this year for families who are feeling a pinch in these tough times.” He said that the POPS wants to make sure that families who may have an unemployed family member or who have had hours or wages reduced can still come to this great community event. “After all,” he said, “the residents of this area have been the POPS’ most loyal supporters – we couldn’t have made it to our eighth year without their amazing help. This is a way we can give back a little extra.”

Tranten also said that this year’s program is expected to be “really exceptional” and that the Board wanted to make sure that cost wouldn’t prevent people from coming. The Bangor Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is once again the featured performance, after a two-year absence. “People had told us they really missed the BSO,” Tranten said. Also performing will be a special guest singer, Suzanne Nance, the well-known host of MPBN’s weekday morning radio program and Gene Nichols of Machias, who will be playing his musical saw with orchestral accompaniment. “We’re really looking forward to that,” said Tranten.

Opening acts will include the Boardman Family, Gawler Family, Pineland Fiddlers and the Western Mountain Trash Can Band. For the first time, a dance performance will be included in the program. As always, the evening will end with the POPS’ signature fireworks display. The Festival of the Arts, where artists and artisans display their work while local musicians play non-stop live music, will take place in the village during the day.

After April 9, when the early-bird locals’ sale ends, tickets will be $20 ($25 if you buy them at the gate on the day of the performance).

The Kingfield POPS’ mission is to strengthen communities through music and art with an annual regional music and arts festival that unifies area communities. The POPS also strives to enhance economic development and provide music enrichment and performance opportunities for youth. 2010 marks the Kingfield POPS’ eighth event.
