Local Delta Kappa Gamma International meets

1 min read

At the February meeting of the Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, members were updated on the DKG World Fellowship Program, which began in 1946 as a project to aid women in war-torn countries.

Through the years, the program has grown, and to date more than 555 women from over 100 countries have received fellowships to enable them to pursue advanced study in the United States and Canada. During the program presentation, members were given pictures of the current 25 scholarship recipients with their name, their field of study, and the name of their home country.

Xi members placed the pictures on a large world map (see photo above) to see the extent to which DKG reaches around the world supporting women in advanced studies. When the activity was completed, it was realized that members had supported women on four continents, and in fields ranging from physics to journalism.

DKG’s budget for state and international scholarships and grants in aid is close to $1.6 million.
