Mt. Blue district’s spelling bee champs

NEW SHARON Mt. Blue Regional School District 9 held its district spelling bee recently at Cape Cod Hill School.

Alessandro Pane, a Mt. Blue Middle School eighth-grade student, correctly spelled “suburban” and then correctly spelled “scholarship” to take first place in the spelling bee. Dakota Crockett, a sixth grader at Cascade Brook School was second; Silas Rogers an eighth grader at Mt. Blue Middle School was third; and Hanna Dion, an eighth grader at Mt. Blue Middle School took fourth place. Russell France, a sixth grader at Cape Cod Hill School earned a fifth place.

The top four bee winners will represent Mt. Blue RSD 9 at the Franklin County Spelling Bee to be held at Strong Elementary School on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. Russell will serve as the alternate.

Also participating were Winnie Chan, Caitlyn Kane, and Ashley Kelleher from Academy Hill School; Emily McHugh, and Vanessa Richards from Cascade Brook School; Ryan Pratt and Thomas Wing from Cape Cod Hill School; and Lisa Couture and Max Wright from the Mt Blue Middle School.

Maureen Oswald served as Bee Master with Claire Vining, Nichole Goodspeed and Cheryl Pike judging.
