2 mins read

WILTON – On Friday, April 29 at 6:00 pm the Wilson Grange will host another of their well-reputed Passport Dinner Tours. This month’s destination will be to Afghanistan. Our young guest will appear in his native garb, representing one of Afghanistan’s most colorful and interesting ethnic groups, the Hazaras. You will follow his life’s journey as a child in a peaceful rural province, then as a refugee with his family during the Taliban regime, followed by the relocation to Kabul during a period of stability and normalcy, and now as a guest student in the United States.

We hear about Afghanistan a lot from the news media, usually in an unfavorable light. The Wilson Grange is offering an opportunity to personally hear what it is like to grow up in Afghanistan told through the eyes of a young man with a deep love of his culture and his country. You will learn about his hopes and dreams about his country someday being at peace, with safe schools and equal rights for all. The evening will begin by listening to ethnic music while dinning on traditional Afghanistan cuisine.

We will learn of the challenges of receiving an education, of existing with very disparate sectors within the population, from arch-fundamentalists to burgeoning internationalists. At the same time there are warm, rich customs and traditions that his family, classmates and friends share that create community. The audience will be moved and inspired listening to this young man’s personal dreams, hopes and plans for moving his beleaguered country into a future of success, productivity and security. A slide presentation will flesh out his compelling words. Questions and discussion will follow the presentation.

Dinner is $12 per person and is by reservation only. Call or email today 645-2400 or mewood@beeline-online.net.

Wilson Grange is across from Shelly’s Hometown Market on Main Street in East Wilton.
