FARMINGTON – The Western Maine Audubon monthly program will be held 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at UMF Roberts C23. The Ecological Impacts of Climate Change: Past, Present, and Future will be presented by UMF Professor Drew Barton. All are welcome.

Snow, Maple syrup, fall colors, delicious summers (the current one not withstanding): these are some of the beloved climatic emblems of Maine. But climate change is afoot, certainly in our future, perhaps in our present. What will this mean here in Maine and New England for our landscape, our pastimes, and our economy?

Drew Barton, UMF professor of Biology, will present a talk “The Ecological Impacts of Climate Change: Past, Present, and Future.” to discuss these questions, first by looking at climates of Maine past and then moving to what is happening now and what might yet be to come.

Drew is has long had an interest in climate change and ecology. In addition to working on a book, The Changing Ecology of the Maine Woods, Drew has been a leader of UMF campus efforts to create a more efficient, sustainable approach to energy use on campus. He was part of the working group behind UMF’s award-winning, sustainably-designed Education Building.
