SAVES, AWAP host Day of Remembrance for those who lost their lives to violence

1 min read

A Day of Remembrance will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 6 PM in Meetinghouse Park in Farmington, just days after the state of Maine recognizes the third annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims on September 25. Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services (SAVES), Franklin County’s sexual violence response project, and Abused Women’s Advocacy Project (AWAP), a domestic violence response project serving Franklin County, have partnered to remember community members who have lost their lives to violence.

Franklin County’s Day of Remembrance will pay tribute to the memories of 11-year-old Amber Pond (1988-1999) and 17-month-old Matteo Hanson (2007-2008), and others, all victims of family violence.

The Day of Remembrance will open with a non-denominational spiritual invocation. Keynote addresses will be delivered by Steve Rowe, former Maine Attorney General, and Tom Saviello, state representative. There will be a candlelit vigil and an open time for surviving family members and loved ones to speak about their experiences.
