FARMINGTON – Western Mountains Alliance is working with a group of local cyclists to offer the Tour de Farmington, a unique opportunity for cyclists to enjoy Franklin County’s beauty and local food.

The Tour de Farmington is a bike tour of Franklin County’s rich farmland followed by a light Mexican meal and concert at the Farmington Gazebo in Meetinghouse Park.

Riders will be able to stop at local farms, experience beautiful locations throughout the Sandy River watershed and even buy fresh, seasonal vegetables, which will be transported by van to the end of the tour for the bikers’ enjoyment.

One of the creators of the event Jeremy Smith, an art teacher from Maranacook, says “the event is designed to promote exercise and eating locally-grown, organic food and what better time of year and place to have a bike tour than during peak foliage in Franklin County.”

The ride will take place on October 10th a date that is historically the peak season for foliage in Franklin County. Bikers can choose from two loops, a novice 19-mile route and experienced 70-mile route, a map of the tour can be viewed on the Tour de Farmington Facebook page.

The deadline to register is September 29th and space is limited. Family and friends are encouraged to volunteer and join cyclist at the end of the tour for a light Mexican cookout at Meetinghouse Park.
