FARMINGTON – What a grand way to bring summer to a close as beautiful blue skies and sunshine welcomed over 130 cars and motorcycles to the first Franklin County Chamber of Commerce End of Summer Hoorah! Auto and Motorcycle Show held Saturday at the Farmington Fairgrounds.

Participants enjoyed a festive day of fellowship with other car and motorcycle owners and were treated to many laughs with the children’s pig scramble and wife carrying competition held in the afternoon shortly after the trophy presentations.

For those who stayed, the Farmington Rotary Club hosted a pig roast barbecue and auction at 5 p.m. with approximately 300 in attendance and bidding on some great items, all donated by local businesses.

Barry Romano of Livermore Falls, won the ‘Best in Show’ trophy for his 1967 Chevy Camaro Yenko.

On Sunday, over 50 motorcycles gathered for the End of Summer Hoorah! Raffle Run at the Farmington Fairgrounds for a hot breakfast at the Sap House and then headed for the western mountains with raffle tickets in hand for their chance at several cash prizes given out during the day. Rangeley Lakes was the perfect setting for a lunch stop before heading to the scenic Height of the Land before returning to the Chamber office which concluded the day’s ride. The Motorcycle Raffle Run was sponsored by Rob Elliott Trucking & Excavation, Strong.

“For our first year, the weekend’s events went very well,” said Lorna Nichols, director of the Chamber. “The weather could not have been any better and the response was great. I’ve already been brainstorming on additional activities for 2009 and may look at adding a Friday evening event as well.”
