Toothaker Pond's ice-out raffle ends Sunday night

PHILLIPS – Take a chance in the Share the Win Ice-Out Raffle and you could become a Friend Raising Funds (FRF) for your town, as well as earn some funds for yourself.

Purchase a 50/50 chance for $5 and make your guess as to when the ice will be out of Toothaker Pond. The closest estimate will earn the winner half the money collected in the sale of raffle tickets and the choice of a community group or charity in Phillips, Avon, or Madrid to receive the other half.

Whoever’s guess comes closest to naming the actual day, hour, and minute of ice-out on Toothaker Pond will be named the winner, said contest organizer Winona Davenport. Ice-out will be declared when a boat can go from the Dill cottage dock to the lighthouse and from the beach to the pond’s far end. This decision will be made by Rick Dill or Warden Jonathan Parker.

Guessing – any time you choose, from this moment to July – begins now with the last chance to register a guess being Sunday, April 10 at 7 p.m. Guesses may be made at Phillips Hardware and Five K Pizza, or by contacting Winona at 639-4296 or Rick Dill at 639-2238. For any who want to take a look at the ice before guessing, contest officials will be on site at Toothaker Pond from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 9 & 10.

Potential 50/50 philanthropists may buy as many guesses as they want. Suggestions of community benefactors include, but are not limited to, any local charity, church, club, civic organization, or school project in the towns of Phillips, Avon, or Madrid. A list of organizations will be posted locally.
