Youths recognized at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church

FARMINGTON – This spring four high school teens involved in St. Joseph’s Catholic Youth Ministry were recognized and blessed by the congregation for an important rite of passage in their lives.

Recognized were Tim Andrews, Brody Hines, Amanda Hall and Joe Martin who are young drivers. During the Driver’s Blessing the parish priest, Fr. Tom Lequin, stressed the responsibility that driving a car brings and the importance for respecting both their own life and those of others on the road. The congregation blessed the youth as their parents symbolically handed over a “Shield of Faith” keychain for the youth to carry to remind them of this blessing.

To end the ritual, the teens read a pledge which outlined showing appreciation for their life and those of others, being courteous on the road, respecting the law, and never driving when they could endanger themselves or others. It is the hope of the St. Joseph’s congregation to recognize youths when they reach milestones in their lives; to celebrate with them, remind them of the responsibilities that new milestones bring and support them in leading responsible Christian lifestyles.
