FARMINGTON – From May 16 to 23, three NorthStar EMS providers will be participating in the 600-mile National EMS Memorial Bike Ride, which starts in New York City and proceeds down the east coast ending in Roanoke, Virginia where a memorial service will take place on Saturday.

NorthStar staff participating include Carl Blondell of Rangeley, Blaine Rackliff of East Dixfield, and Rod Koehn of Wilton. The ride and memorial service is to recognize and honor those EMS providers who have given their lives while working and providing emergency medical care.

NorthStar’s group will be riding with other EMS providers from around the country. Participants will ride every day, for seven days (averaging 80-110 miles per day). “Local EMS and fire departments help by lining the streets to encourage our efforts and provide for some of our meals as we pass from town to town,” said Blondell.

Those interested in supporting the cause may make a donation to support the costs of lodging and travel during the ride. Contributions can be sent to the FCHN Foundation at 111 Franklin Health Commons, Farmington ME 04938. In the memo section of your check, please note: EMS Memorial Bike Ride.
