RANGELEY – A good turnout of 267 voters approved the 2009-2010 school budget, allowed vendors to continue holding festivals at the town park and elected James Carignan to the Board of Selectmen in elections held Tuesday.

The annual town meeting is 6 p.m. tomorrow night (June 18) in the gym at Rangleley Lakes Regional School.

The $3 million school budget was approved by a vote of 154-108, according to Town Clerk Ethna Thompson’s count.

Incumbent school board director Barbara Burgess was easily reelected with 195 votes with a few write-ins.

The two vacant seats on the Park Commission were filled by Everett Quimby with 94, and Maxine Sargent with 79 votes in a close race with write-in challengers Elizabeth Eastlack with 75 votes and James Jannace with 68 votes.

The two openings on the water district board and the three openings on sewer commission went unanswered as there were no candidates or write-in candidates for the posts.

The question of allowing one- or two-day festivals to benefit local nonprofit groups with for-profit vendors attending at Lakeside Park was passed by a 3-1 margin, with a vote of 183-65.
