Accident in Phillips injures one

PHILLIPS – A 34-year-old motorcyclist was injured after colliding with a pick-up truck at 8 a.m. on Route 4 this morning.

Gregory Gilchrist, 53, was attempting to turn left into a driveway when a 1983 Honda motorcycle driven by Joel Thompson, 34, tried to pass him and hit the side of the truck, according to police. Thompson was ejected after striking the truck and was injured.

The motorcyclist was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. According to Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandy Burke, Thompson was suffering from a broken pelvis and thumb.

Burke cited Thompson for operating an unregistered vehicle and for having no proof of insurance.

The Phillips Fire Department and Sanders Wrecker Service also responded to the accident.
