L. Herbert York accepts a gavel and plaque from Richard Davis.

FARMINGTON – The planning board lost more than 20 years of experience last night, with the retirement of its long-time chair.

L. Herbert “Bussie” York was recognized by Town Manager Richard Davis in a small ceremony prior to the start of the meeting. York was given a plaque and gavel, in recognition of 23 years on the board. Davis thanked York for “many years of valuable service to the town of Farmington.”

“Well, I don’t know about the valuable service,” York joked, “but it’s been a lot of hours and lot of sweat, working on the board.”

York, who first served on the planning board in 1987, said that he had watched the town of Farmington mature over the past couple of decades, with the development of ordinances, a comprehensive plan and an ever-expanding population. He also thanked his fellow board members, noting the importance of having a dedicated, diverse planning board.
