JAY – At the Jay Select Board meeting on October 23, police Chief Richard Caton was awarded Risk Reduction Enhancement Grant Program that will be used to purchase traffic cones. The grant will cover 100% of the cost, but not exceeding $2,988.70, which can be used to purchase an estimated 130 cones. The board voted to approve the acceptance of the grant.

Sewer Superintendent Mark Holt proposed to the board the sale of a variety of T-4 and T-6 pumps as well as ductile iron pipes that are no longer needed after converting the treatment plant to a pump station. Holt’s request for the sewer equipment disposal was approved by the board, and the funds from the sale of the equipment will be put into the reserve account.

Holt also requested to be able to use up to $15,000 from the reserve account to purchase a used vehicle, and stated that he does not believe the current vehicle being used will pass the next inspection. The request was approved by the board, and Holt is currently waiting to get approval from the Livermore Falls Select Board before purchasing the vehicle. Holt also stated that there is approximately $420,000 to $425,000 left in the reserve account.

The board also voted to approve Pratt & Sons proposal to complete the spot repair on the 12-inch concrete sewer line on Jay Hill Road for a price of $19,500. They will provide traffic control, erosion control, sewer bypass pumping, groundwork control, and materials needed for the repairs.

Starrett Snow and Landscape Services submitted a bid of $96,732 to remove the current temporary access bridge located on Hutchinson Road, provide a new temporary bridge, and then remove it once the permanent repair has been completed. It has been determined that a 45-foot span temporary bridge will be sufficient to cross the stream.

Dirigo Bridge Company will assist with the project by designing concrete abutments constructed with concrete blocks four rows high and a 45-foot bridge frame with four 24 by 76-foot beams, and will be decked with 12 four-foot timber mats that are 16 feet wide.

The board voted to approve the bid from Starrett Snow.
