JAY – Police arrested a local man Saturday, after finding him in someone else’s apartment.

Jesse Gauvin, 31, of Jay, was charged with burglary, possession of unlawful scheduled drugs and violating the conditions of release after police say they found him on the second floor of an apartment building in downtown Jay.

According to Police Chief Larry White Sr., people on the first floor of the apartment alerted the Jay Police Department after they heard footsteps above them. Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier arrived and was told by the people on the first floor that the residents of the second floor apartment were not believed to be home at the time.

Fournier went upstairs and announced himself, telling whoever was in the apartment to show themselves. Gauvin did so and was arrested.

Police say that the possession charge stems from Oxycontin found on Gauvin’s person. He was also charged with violating bail conditions set after being charged with operating under the influence earlier in the year.

White said that the police department believed that Gauvin was familiar with the apartment and its residents.
