FARMINGTON – A local man convicted of possessing child pornography in 2002 was arrested Wednesday, after police say he failed to report his whereabouts for the sex offender registry.

Galen L. Gregory, 35, of Farmington, was arrested and charged with failing to comply with the sex offender act. The first offense of this type is typically a misdemeanor.

According to Lt. Jack Peck of the Farmington Police Department, he became aware that Gregory was living in the area and that he was on the sex offender registry. According to the registry, the last time that Gregory’s address was verified was in April 2008, listing an address in Vienna.

The law requires that changes in address be reported to the registry. Peck said that Gregory’s own admission put his move to Farmington in the month of October 2008.

Gregory was convicted of possession of sexually explicit material and disseminating sexually explicit material, both crimes requiring that the perpetrator know that the individuals in the material are below the age of 14.

Gregory was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail. He was released later the same day on a $3,000 unsecured bond. His first court date has been scheduled for June 18.
