Police seek prowler, reportedly find Avon man hiding in car

RANGELEY – Police responding to a report of an attempted break-in on Allen Street on June 7 brought in a tracking dog to find the alleged prowler, before reportedly finding him hiding in the back of the resident’s car.

Tyler Amburg, 23, of Avon, has been charged with criminal attempted burglary, burglary of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief following an incident on the evening of June 7. Amburg reportedly also may have violated the conditions of his release by allegedly committing new criminal activity.

Late in the evening of June 7, a resident on Allen Street called the police, reporting a man prowling around her property and attempting to gain entrance to her house. Rangeley Police Department’s Officer John Bonnell responded, as the resident reported that the prowler had circled behind her house and was trying to enter through the rear door.

According to police, Bonnell arrived to discover some damage to the front door and a broken railing. Bonnell and other officers began searching for the prowler, eventually contacting the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, who utilizes K-9 units. A tracking dog eventually led police to the resident’s vehicle, in which they reportedly found Amburg.

Amburg was transported to Franklin County Jail.
