Public hearing for junkyard permit Tuesday night

WILTON – A public hearing will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday on a new junkyard permit request proposed on a parcel along Route 2 & 4 prior to the selectmen’s regular meeting at the town office.

Kimball Farrington received the planning board’s approval for a junkyard permit last month. Farrington’s lot, located between Collectors Delight antique shop and Double D Garage, has for sometime had large mill equipment stored on the property.

Although screened from the public’s view by trees, Code Enforcement Officer Paul Montague said the situation met the state’s definition of a junkyard and therefore needs a permit if Farrington wants to keep the equipment stored on the commercially zoned lot.

The public is welcome to attend and comment at the hearing on the proposed permit before selectmen take action on the application.

In other matters, selectmen will receive a quarterly report from the police department and a request for the temporary hiring of additional officers during the Blueberry Festival, and a report from Montague on code enforcement.
