Rangeley man charged with trafficking in cocaine

RANGELEY – Police say a traffic stop led to the arrest of a local man for trafficking charges, after they allegedly found more than 39 grams of cocaine was discovered in the man’s house.

Philip Carter, 51, of Rangeley, was pulled over by Officer Jared Austin of the Rangeley Police Department Wednesday afternoon and charged with operating under the influence. He was also charged with possession of a Schedule W drug after police say they recovered four grams of cocaine from his vehicle.

Carter was arrested and taken to Franklin County Jail. He was subsequently released on a $3,000 unsecured bond.

According to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency representatives, the Rangeley department officers, MDEA agents and Maine State Police troopers executed a search warrant on Carter’s home on High Street the next morning. There they say they found more that 39 grams of cocaine, $25,000 in cash and “drug paraphernalia,” including a scale bearing trace amounts of the drug and ledger books.

No firearms were found in the residence.

Carter was arrested again and charged with trafficking in a Schedule W drug, a Class B felony. He had not been released as of Friday morning.
