FARMINGTON – A Mt. Blue Middle School student was expelled following a disciplinary hearing Tuesday evening, after admitting materials capable of creating an explosive device were brought into the school.

Disciplinary hearings are conducted in executive session board meetings, with the school board’s actions and findings available for public review. In this case, the board issued a finding that a student of Mt. Blue Middle School admitted to bringing materials capable of making an explosive into the school building.

Under policy JICIA, “Weapons, Violence and School Safety,” the board voted to expel the student.

The board also issued two, 40-day suspensions for high school students. One student was found by the board to have brought alcohol into Mt. Blue High School and been sharing it with other students. The other student was found to be using alcohol on campus, and to have furnished an alcoholic drink for another student.

Both individuals were ordered suspended from school for 40 days, counting 10 days already spent suspended from school.

In a fourth disciplinary hearing, the board voted to readmit an expelled student into Mt. Blue High School. That student had been originally expelled for smoking marijuana on the campus, and had successfully completed criteria developed by the high school principal prior to the student’s return.
