FARMINGTON – A Vermont man who police say fell asleep and crashed into another pick up was arrested and charged with operating without a license following the noontime accident on Farmington Falls Road.

Christopher Cochran, 28, of North Wolcott, Vermont, was following a Ford F350 pick up driven by Donald Foster, 64, of Gilbert, Arizona, west on the Farmington Falls Road, said officer Michael Adcock of the Farmington Police Department.

Cochran, driving a Ford Ranger pick up, “fell asleep and collided into the back of the Foster pick up. His (Cochran’s) vehicle flipped onto its side and skidded another 150 feet,” Adcock said.  The crash took place t the Davis Road intersection, across from Hammond Lumber Company. After checking with dispatch, Cochran, who was unhurt after the crash, was arrested and charged with operating without a license.

Foster’s wife, Charlene, 55, was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital by NorthStar ambulance services. She complained of minor injuries, Adcock said, and was transported to the hospital as a precaution. Cochran’s pick up was a total loss while Foster’s pickup received an estimated $1,200 in damages.

The Farmington Fire and Rescue Department also responded and assisted at the scene with traffic. Normally a busy time of day, one lane of traffic was kept open to keep things moving.

“Everybody did a nice job at the scene,” Adcock said.
