The few who did turn out to vote in the MSAD 9 budget referendum did give a final OK by more than a 2 to 1 margin at the polls yesterday.

An unofficial tally of the nine MSAD 9 towns voting totaled 229 for ratifying the $23.6 million budget for next fiscal year, with 81 against. The single yes/no question asked if actions taken at the May 19 budget meeting be approved.

With little debate, roughly 70 voters approved 17 state-mandated articles, many of them unanimously at the public meeting last week.

The budget was set at $23,654,291. The budget proposal represents a $307,575 decrease from the current budget, or a savings of 1.28 percent.

New Vineyard’s majority of voters voted down the budget’s approval by 9 for and 14 against. Chesterville and Industry each realized a one vote majority with 9-8 and 11-10, respectively.

Preliminary voting results according to the superintendent’s office by town are:
Chesterville 9-8, Farmington 81-7, Industry 11-10, New Sharon 30-9, New Vineyard 9-14, Temple 13-11, Vienna 18-8, Weld 10-4, Wilton 48-10.
