WILTON – Alton J. Walston, 83, of Wilton, died Tuesday afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Wilton.

He was born in Oklahoma, Sept. 23, 1926, a son of Pat and Elizabeth (Tibbs) Walston. On July 25, 1994, he married Rev. Sharon Stoops in Illinois. Mr. Walston worked as a railroad engineer for Sante Fe Railroad for many years and was a church planter and minister for 45 years. He was a people-person and his mission in life was to serve God. He enjoyed tinkering on old trucks and cars and was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Wilton.

He is survived by his wife, Rev. Sharon Walston of Wilton; children: Gary of Barstow, CA; Barbara and husband, Glenn of Dayton, OH; and Paula and husband Gregg of Barstow, CA; 3 sisters: Dessie, Louise, and Audrey. There are 5 step–children: Darla, Laura, James, Jeannie and Nathan. He was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Dora Faye.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High Street, Wilton, Monday from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the First Apostolic Church, Rt. 2, Wilton, with Rev. Rick Stoops, District Superintendent of Maine for the United Pentecostal Church, Int., officiating.

Interment will be May 4 at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton. Tributes and memories may be shared with the family at www.wilesrc.com.
