Arlene B. Swett (1915-2009)

DIXFIELD – Arlene B. Swett, 94, of Dixfield, died upon arrival at the Emergency Room of the Rumford Community Hospital, Rumford, on Tuesday morning Sept. 8, 2009.

She was born July 27, 1915, in Carthage, a daughter of Erlon and Harriet (Savage) Berry. She graduated from Dixfield High School and Bliss Business College. On June 29, 1941, she married Clayton Swett. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. He predeceased her in 2005.

For many years, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Ralph L. Clarke Plumbing in Rumford and later for Hudon Furniture Co. in Rumford. Her favorite hobby was reading and her most precious time was spent in the company of her family.

She is survived by a daughter: Priscilla Sayce of Dixfield; two sons: Clayton Swett, Jr. of Dixfield and Jeffrey Swett of Florida; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren and she was awaiting the birth of a 7th; two sisters: Dorothy Mason of Carthage and Lucile Bradbury of Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her folks, her husband, two siblings: Wendell Berry and Beatrice Johnson and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Swett.

Public memorial graveside services will be held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2009 at 2 PM at the Newman Cemetery, Carthage. Condolences may be sent via e-mail to her family at info@wilesrc.com. Cremation services are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, 42 Weld St., Dixfield and Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn.
