FARMINGTON – Arlene C. Baker, 89, of Farmington, formerly of Wilton, a Mayflower descendant from John Alden, passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center, where she had resided for the last three years.

She was born April 8, 1922, in Wilton, the daughter of Raymond and Carrie (Fellows) Baker. She received her education in Wilton schools and attended Farmington Normal School where she studied to be a teacher. Following her father’s death, she returned home to care for her mother and was employed in the office at Forster Mfg. Co.

She was a member of the Wilton United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer for many years, was a member of the UMW and the church choir. She loved her cat Penny and enjoyed reading and hooking rugs in her spare time.

Always known for her kind, generous spirit and soft-spoken ways, she will be greatly missed by family, friends and caregivers. Her family would like to thank Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center and Beacon Hospice staff for their dedication and love.

She leaves her family: cousin Robert Adams and his wife Betty of Wilton, and many friends and caregivers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a young brother, Harold Baker, and cousins Roberta Adams, Thelma Curtis, Louise Ferguson and Mel Varney.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 24 at 2 p.m. from the Wilton United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Stevens officiating. Committal prayers will be recited at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton. Following services, all are welcome to a reception in the church vestry hosted by the UMW.
