Cora L. Whittier (1921 – 2008)

Cora L. Whittier, 87, of Farmington passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Edgewood Rehabilitation & Living Center with her family by her side. She was born June 2, 1921 in Freeman, Maine the daughter of Abel and Theresa (Luce) Hinkley. Cora was educated in the Bingham schools and graduated from Bingham High. After graduating she moved to Farmington where she later met and married Fred C. Whittier. She was a homemaker while her children were young, later working part-time at Don’s A.G., Farmington Shoe, and retired from Maine Dowel. For many years she was an avid camper who also enjoyed watching her daughters participate in horse shows.

Cora is survived by her husband of 58 years, Fred Whittier of Farmington, three daughters Alicia Dumas and her husband Philip of Standish, Sharon Luce and her husband Earl (Duff) of New Vineyard, and Firle Stinchfield and her husband John of Phillips, five grandchildren Marcy, Jennifer, Renee, Becky, and Amy, four great-grandchildren Zachary, Olivia, Nathan, and Cooper. She was predeceased by a brother Lloyd Hinkley, of Bingham.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and volunteers of Edgewood Manor and Beacon Hospice of Bangor. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Cora’s memory to the Edgewood Manor Residents Rec Improvement Fund, 221 Fairbanks Rd., Farmington, Maine 04938.

In respect of Cora’s wishes there will be a private graveside services at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
