STRONG – David “Wade” Marsters, Sr, M.D., age 85 died Nov. 7, 2009 at his home in Strong. He was born October 12, 1924 in Bloomfield, NJ, a son of Arthur and C. Evelyn (Morton) Marsters.
His time at Union College, Schenectady, NY was interrupted by WW II. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was in the 62nd Infantry Division, 253rd Infantry, Company B. He was discharged in June of 1946, then graduated from Union in 1948. He attended Albany Medical College and his internship was at Newark City Hospital. He practiced medicine in Strong and Phillips. At age 40, Wade completed a residency in anesthesiology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, then practiced at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J. And later at hospitals in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. He retired in 1988.
Wade had many hobbies: fly fishing, fly tying, boating, woodworking, gardening, cooking, cameras, classical music, storytelling, antiques, guns, reading, Chess, Scrabble, travel, bee keeping, and raising angel fish. He enjoyed many hours on the Bay of Fundy and at the cottage in Harbourville, Nova Scotia. He spent a number of winters on St. Simons Island, GA.
He is survived by his “second mate” of 15 years, Judith Allen, of Strong, Maine; his son, David W. Marsters Jr., M.D. and his wife, Ann; his daughter, Deborah M. Parrott, M.D. and her husband Russell; grandchildren, Peter Marsters,( Dawn),and children,Lilly and Beniah Wade, Karl Marsters,( Catherine), Katherine Marsters, Andrew Parrott and his wife, Heather,and children, Josie Mae and Andrea, Michael Parrott, and Hayes Parrott, (Sham), all of Nova Scotia. Aimee Parrott (John) of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Stepchildren; Cynthia Thomas, Jerry Allen and Wendy Pond and husband E. John Pond. Step grandchildren; James Thomas and wife, Mary, Joseph Thomas, Jason Thomas and wife, Sheena, Monica Allen and husband, Ken, Toby Pond and wife Holly, Travis Pond, Joshua Allen, and Tasha Allen of Maine and NH. And eight step-greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Russell Marsters, A sister, Miriam Wallace, and his first wife of 44 years, Shirley Elizabeth,”Betty,” White who died in 1993.
There will be a celebration of his life at the Strong United Methodist Church, Strong, Maine on November 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM and also at Berwick, Nova Scotia at a later date. There will be no visitation hours. His
ashes will be buried beside his first wife in Grafton, N. S.
