Dorothy E. McCullough Morrison (1919-2009)

AUGUSTA – Dorothy E. McCullough Morrison 88, formerly of Randolph, died May 27, 2009 at the Maine General Hospital Care and Rehab in Augusta.

She was born at home on Sept. 9, 1919 in Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada the daughter of Joseph and Edith (Nicholson) McCullough. She was educated at the local schoolhouse, attended and subsequently graduated from Victoria College of Nursing in Fredericton, N.B. as a Registered Nurse. She was a R.N. all her life. Shortly after graduating she married Dean P. Morrison with whom she had three children and a stillborn.

Dot, as she was known, was a RN all her life. At one time, she was the night supervisor at the old Augusta General for many years followed by becoming a cardiac specialist in the intensive care unit at Thayer Hospital in Waterville (from which she retired) and then came out of retirement and worked at AMHI in Augusta for more than ten years.

Dot loved nature, her yard of flowers, her lawn well manicured and well landscaped with bushes, plants and always a small garden. But her biggest attribute was her sense of humor. She was a friend to all and exemplified the Golden Rule. She also loved her pets. There were always cats around with dogs too, until later years.

She is survived by two sons, John Morrison of Pittston and Dean Morrison of Southport and Rangeley, one nephew, Aubrey McCullough of Keswick Ridge, N.B., three grandchildren, John Morrison of Greenbush, Jeff Morrison of Barrington, N.H. And Scott Morrison of Bar Harbor and great grandchildren Marylyn (Mary Jane) of Greenbush, Josh and Megan of Barrington, N.H. She was predeceased by two brothers Wilford and Eldon McCullough, former husband Dean P. Morrison, daughter Jane C. Morrison, two nephews, Frank and Phillip McCullough of Keswick Ridge, N.B.

Gravesides will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Rangeley. Friends wishing may make donations in Dot’s memory to the Jane C. Morrison Memorial Film Fund, c/o Maine Arts Commission Office, 193 State Street, Augusta, Maine 04330. Arrangements under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Adams Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, Maine.
