AUBURN – Fernande M. Duguay, 89, a former resident of Jay, who later made her residence in Bear Pond and Florida, died late Sunday evening, May 30th at Clover Manor Nursing Home in Auburn where she had been a resident for the past several years.

She was born February 24, 1921, the daughter of Ernest and Marie Louise (Lapointe) Begin. She was a graduate of Jay High School. On September 2, 1940 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, she married her husband of 44 years, Marcel Duguay. He passed away September 20, 1984.

Ferne worked at Livermore Shoe, Chisholm Pastry Shop and later as an inspector for James River Paper Co., Otis Mill, in Chisholm. She retired in 1985. Ferne was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima and St. Phillips churches. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Ferne enjoyed her camp at Bear Pond with her husband, working in her raspberry patch, raking, sun bathing, playing cards, and entertaining family and friends.

She will be remembered for her smile, her strong work ethic and the crepes she would make for her grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons, Jerome Duguay of Bear Pond and The Villages, Florida, Michael Duguay and his wife Michele of Napa, California, Lawrence Duguay and his wife, Carol of Turner, Mark Duguay and his wife Cindy also of Turner; two daughters and their husbands, Jeanne and Charles Tidswell of Cocoa, Florida, and Kathleen and Robert Kerr of Farmington; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; her brother, Paul Begin and his wife Barbara of Jay, her sister, Claire Lockney and her husband Sam of Yucaipa, California. She was predeceased by her brother, Henry Begin, sister Jackie Fetro and an infant sister, Claire Begin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. on Friday, June 4th at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1 Church Street, Jay, Maine. Visiting hours 4-7 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Daughters of Isabella will meet at 5 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Hinkley Hill, Livermore Falls, Maine.
