Fred L. Jackson, Jr. (1937 – 2009)

Fred L. Jackson, Jr., life-long Farmington resident and beloved father, died Sunday, May 17. Fred, known as Sonny by many, passed away in the company of friends and family at an Auburn hospice facility after a long battle with lung disease.

Fred was born at Farmington Hospital on April 1st, 1937, to Fred L. Jackson, Sr. and wife, Althea. Fred excelled at high school sports including football, basketball and track, and was active in 4H and competitive horseback riding. He graduated from Farmington High School and went on to serve a tour in the U.S. Navy. Fred attended technical school for animal husbandry, and worked throughout New England as a herdsman and cattle breeder. He was also self-employed as a general contractor and worked in construction for Cianbro Corp. as a laborer and foreman. Fred followed after his father in cared for the skating rinks at Hippach Field in Farmington, and taught many young people to figure skate. He was also active in little league sports including hockey and football. In his later years, Fred served as a member of Mt. Blue Assembly of God. Fred considered himself a gentleman farmer and enjoyed gardening, raising beef cows, woodworking and general tinkering.

Fred is survived by his elder sister, Marion Pratt. Fred leaves behind five children; Timothy Jackson and wife Vickie with children Charity and Faith, Anne Marie Fugimura and husband Robert with children Kathryn, Jillian, Emylianne, Jacob, Josiah, and Madeline, Christopher Jackson and wife Wendy with children Nicholas, Petra, Autumn, Johnathan, and Mason, Scott Marquis and wife Christina with children Christopher and Chelsea , and Philip Jackson with fiance Donlyn. Fred is also survived by five great grandchildren and one
great, great grandchild. Fred was predeceased by his wife, Ann. Fred also survived his mother, Althea, his father, Fred Sr. and younger sister, Verna Horowitz.

A memorial service will be held at Truth Pointe Assembly of God, 547 Wilton Rd. Farmington on Saturday, May 23rd at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
