George S. Nicholson (1929-2010)

AVON – George S. Nicholson, 81, of Avon, died on Dec. 16, 2010, at his home with his son and his dog at his side.

He was born in Wakefield, Mass., March 15, 1929, a son of William and Edna (Thompson) Nicholson. He received his education in Massachusetts schools, and he was a graduate of Bentley School of Accountancy in Boston, now known as Bentley University in Waltham.

Mr. Nicholson was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He worked for a period at Logan Airport and then Hanscom Field. He continued his career as an accountant at Star Market Supermarkets for over 25 years. He retired to his home in Avon, Maine

He had a camp on Locke Pond in North Chesterville for many years. He loved the outdoors and the woods. He was a member of the NRA and the American Legion.

He is survived by his son, Andrew Nicholson, MD of Gorham; a sister, Ellie Steves of MI; and a grand daughter, Amanda Nicholson of Gorham. He will be remembered as a quietly caring and generous man who valued his independence and his privacy. At his request, no public service will be held
