EMBDEN – John F. Roderick, 61, of Embden passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011.

He was born on Oct. 14, 1949 in Skowhegan to Roland and Rosalie (Walker) Roderick. He attended Skowhegan schools. John served in the Army in Germany and then saw active duty in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service.

John worked for Mylon Turner in his sawmill for years and then for Frank Rotondi and Bruno Poulin on their cattle farm. After being employed at Wood Tech, John worked at Sugarloaf for 28 years until he retired in 2008. John’s favorite past time was spoiling his granddaughters. He also enjoyed camping with his family, BBQing, and playing cribbage.

John is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine (Fotter) Roderick of 40 years, their son Travis Roderick and his wife Kory and children Chelsea, Isabel, and Olivia, all of Avon; his mother Rosaliee Roderick, siblings Larry Roderick, Gloria Veilleux, Tom Roderick, Ronald Roderick, Robert Roderick, Donna Quimby, Betty Roderick, and Michael Roderick.

John was predeceased by a two-year-old sister Nancy, his father Roland, and his son Terry Lee Roderick.

John will be remembered and sadly missed by many other family members, friends, and past co-workers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at 10  a.m. at the Sugarloaf Chapel at Sugarloaf Mountain, Carabassett Valley, Maine. A gathering will follow at a place to be announced.
