FARMINGTON – Lola Valentine Holmes, 97, formerly of Wilton, died in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 30, 2008, at Edgewood Living and Rehabilitation Center, Farmington, where she had resided since May of 2006.
She was born Feb. 14, 1911, in Rumford, a daughter of George and Gertrude (Anderson) Murray. She was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of ’29.
She was employed at the Ridlonville Post Office and in 1932, married William Augustus Holmes. They lived in Livermore Falls and later in Wilton. He died in 1950. For many years, she was employed at Norwock Shoe in North Jay.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who valued spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing cards, Yahtzee and tending to her home. She always enjoyed the Annual Blueberry Festival in Wilton and sitting on her front porch and watching the activities on the lake. She always enjoyed the camaraderie with her family and friends at the weekly Friday evening “bar night” with “The Girls.”
She is survived by two daughters: Sally Eames of Ames, Iowa and Susan Adams of Wilton; brother: Earl Murray of Mexico; two sisters: Myrtle John of Bloomfield, CT. and Annie Roberts of Mexico; grandchildren: Susan, Robin, Randy, Ronnie, Judy, Timothy, Angela, Russell, Denise, Debbie, Edgar and Cara; many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and folks, she was predeceased by two sons: Walter and Charles Holmes; brother, Donald Murray, sister, Alice Paul; great-granddaughter, Maureen Bell and son-in-law, Denny Adams.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton, Saturday morning, Aug. 9 from noon until the time of the services at 1 PM.
