CANTON – Ralph A. Smith, 95, of Jay, died early Saturday evening at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home in Canton. He was born in Livermore Falls, July 3, 1914 a son of Samuel and Bernice (Mosher) Smith and received his education in Livermore Falls schools. He was employed at International Paper Co. in Jay for many years and was an avid reader of National Geographic and the Sun Journal. He enjoyed exploring, going for rides and was a train lover having donated a train to the Paper Making museum in Livermore Falls.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna Smith and her companion of over 40 years, Edwin Tibbetts of Jay; a sister, Ida of Texas; two special cousins, Sherry Judd and Linda Bonnevie. He was predeceased by his wife Glennice, whom he married on Oct. 5, 1941 on Feb. 27, 2004; a brother Harold; and a sister, Eva.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 pm at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Road, Jay. Relatives and friends are invited to call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Jay Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be considered to the charity of one’s choice. Condolences and tributes may be shared with the family at www.wilesrc.com.
