MEXICO – Richard O. Coolidge, “Dick” 80, of Mexico, died peacefully at home Sunday, March 20, 2011.

He was the youngest son of Harry and Alma Coolidge, born Aug, 8, 1930, on the family farm in Dixfield. He received his education in East Dixfield schools and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

Dick was a retired welder, having worked at the paper mill in Rumford for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling and was a member of a number of organizations related to his passions. In the 1960s, Dick drove the pink “190” at Oxford Plains Speedway and Speedway 95. He was a member of LeParesseux Showsho Club; Rumford and was a life-member of SAM and the North American Hunter’s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Syrena (Rosenbohm) Coolidge of Mexico; a daughter Janice Coolidge; a step-son, Larry Davis and his wife, Carol of Hermon; a step-daughter, Durita Lynn “Rita” Smith and her husband, Ronnie of Temple; a sister Jean Brann of the Wilton area; six grandchildren: Joseph Davis, Kayla Frye, Durita Lynn “Lynn” Smith, Diane Dunham, Ron Smith, Jr., William Smith and by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Phyllis Carter Coolidge; a son, Richard Coolidge, Jr. and siblings: Lester, Chet, and Ken Coolidge; Dot Dakin, Mary Collins and Beatrice Hanson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9 at 11 a.m. from the Dixfield Congregational Church, Dixfield. Following services, a reception will be held in the church vestry. All are welcome. Committal services with full
military honors will be held Monday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton.
