Richard Sinkinson (1921-2008)

INDUSTRY – Richard Sinkinson, 87, died on Saturday, Oct. 18 at his home on Clearwater Lake, Industry, where he had been a resident for 27 years.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Rev. George E. Sinkinson and Robert, USMC. He was born in Boston, the son of George Edward and Enola Nickerson Sinkinson. He was a graduate of the Moses Brown School in Providence, RI, and of the University of Maine, Orono, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Scabbard and Blade, and lettered in track and football.

He served his country in World War II as an Infantry company commander in the Pacific theater for two years. After service he met and married the former Barbara Sherwood, and they had four children: Michael, of Reading, PA; Pamela, of Troy, MT; William, of Wilmington, NC; and Caroline, of Newberg, OR. Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive.

After a career in sales management at the national level, he and Barbara retired to Clearwater Lake in Industry, where he was active in town affairs, serving as first selectman of Industry for 15 years, and as a member of the town planning board, the Clearwater Lake Association and the Northern Lites Snowmobile Club.

At his request there will be no service or visitation, and burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his memory to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 284 Main St. Suite 290, Wilton, Maine 04294 or any of the local clubs he so enjoyed.
