Robert E.”Bob” Sanders (1952-2009)

FARMINGTON – Robert E.”Bob” Sanders, 57, of Jay, formerly of Livermore Falls, fought a courageous battle with cancer. He gained his wings on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 17, 2009 at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

He was born Feb. 2, 1952 in Farmington, Maine and was the son of Carl L. Caton and Constance E. “Connie” Chandler Sanders Caton.

He was a 1970 graduate of Livermore Falls High School and attended Eastern Maine School of Carpentry. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War.

On July 15, 1978, he married Sylvia McKenna at Rumford Center. His greatest joys came from time spent with his beloved family and raising an active “extended” family. He contributed a great deal of time to the Cub Scout and Boy Scout program and was an outdoorsman who especially enjoyed snowmobiling. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls.

Bob very much enjoyed his work. He was a self-employed mechanic in Livermore Falls and Jay and was proud and honored to have worked as a dispatcher and patrolman for the Jay Police Department. Most recently, he managed the Transfer Station for the Town of Jay.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia, of Jay; two sons: Jacob Sanders and his wife, Athena and their children, Gavin, Bretteney and Ian, all of Jay; and Kevin Carl Sanders and his dog, Abby of N. Jay; his step-mother, Helen Teele of Wilton; three brothers: Richard Sanders and his wife, Shirley of Leeds, Douglas Caton and his wife, Tiffany of Litchfield and David Croteau of Farmington; four sisters: Irene Couture and her husband, Tony of Jay; Arlene Welch and her husband, Hershel of Jay; Nancy Chaney and her husband, Ted of Jay and Dayna Emerson and her husband, James of Bangor. 20 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother and father and brother, James Sanders who died in May of 2006.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 307 Franklin Rd. (Rte. 133), Jay, Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. with military honors from The First Baptist Church, Church St., Livermore Falls. Following services, all are invited to attend a comfort meal, hosted by the Hospitality Committee in the church vestry. Spring committal at Pleasant View Cemetery, Livermore Falls.
